On December 11th, Tom Robinson, who made his Japan Rugby League One debut in Round 1 against the Black Rams last Saturday, shared his purpose for coming to Japan: reuniting with his former Blues teammate and embracing the Japanese culture.
- How was your League One debut?
“It was awesome. I love the environment, the fans all wearing Verblitz gear and all, you know, when we arrived, they were already there in the stadium.”
- What was your impression on Ricoh Black Rams at round 1?
“They were physical and they were big. Probably a bigger pack than I thought I would come up against in Japan.”
- Why did you decide to come to Japan?
“I wanted to experience something new, go on an adventure, learn a new culture, learn a new language and just get out of my comfort zone. Coming to a country on my own that can't speak the language, but just embracing it. “
- Were there any advice from Patrick Tuipulotu (former player at Verblitz 2021-2022) ?
“Yeah, he spoke really highly of Toyota. Loved the people, loved the place.”
- On his dedication to study Japanese...
“I think I want to make the most of this experience and opportunity, and if I could interact with players, fans and management, it'll just make the whole experience more enjoyable.”
- On using Katakana (Japanese character) for his autograph...
“Just for my signature. I'm just more focusing on the speaking (laughter). “
- On his relationship with Beauden Barrett…
“Just trying to help him out as much as I can. He's been to Japan before, so he understands a lot. “
